President Ronald Reagan recently proclaimed the week of Oct. 6-12 National 4-H Week. Hd extended his “heartiest congratulations” to the 4.5 million youth members and the more than 630,000 4-H volunteer leaders across the country.
He saluted the 4-H members who are developing their lifeskills, and the volunteer leaders “...for your commitment to strengthening American families and communities, by teaching such skills to others."
He also commended the total 4-H program's science, technology and human relations achievements in food and fiber, natural resources, nutrition and volunteerism.
Noting that 1985 is the International Youth Year, the president said, “I especially applaud your i r J '• > t | cross-cultural education projects In this country and the similar 4-H type programs in over 80 other countries throughout the world.”
The 4-H program here in Rappahannock, as it is elsewhere across the nation, is the educational program for youth, ages nine to 19, of the Cooperative Extension Service
