The Internal Revenue Service is offering a new service to Virginians who need federal tax forms and publications.
A new toll-free number has been established: 1-800-424-3676.
The number is in service Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Richmond residents may call a local number, 309-1052, during the same hours.
The forms-only number is part of a new centralized inventory and distribution system (CIDS) designed to service forms requests in a more efficient, effective, and economical manner.
The Richmond Distribution Center, servicing the states from Maine to Virginia, is the first of three CIDS in the country. When it becomes fully operational, it will process forms requests for the entire Eastern Seaboard and will service approximately 40 percent of the taxpaying population. Eventually, it will employ approximately 100 people full-time, and up to 300 people
