During the second half, Jerry Latell, of Huntly, scored, making the score 6-1. Linton Hall turned around and scored again to make the final score 7-1 in their favor.
Wakefield’s varsity field hockey team played Fauquier High School this week in a long-awaited match. The game was held at the 4-H Center near Front Royal, which serves as Wakefield’s home field. In the first half, Fauquier dominated the play sending the ball powerfully across the field. At the close of the first half, Wakefield began to play a more vigorous game and Annie Dunning, of Boyce, was able to score in a fast break.
After an invigorating halftime talk by Coach Barbara Todd, Wakefield returned to the field eager for a win. In the second half, Wakefield’s skills improved tremendously and once again Dunning scored. The game ended with a 4-2 victory for Fauquier, but the Wakefield team is undaunted and eagerly awaits this week’s match against St. Anne’s Bellfield.
