Five property owners in Sperryville will receive at least one more letter from the Rappahannock Water and Sewer Authority .explaining the regulations and risks involved — including mandatory hookup that will probably cost the homeowner more than $8,000 — if they continue their requests to be exempted from the Sperryville Sewage System.
The five potential customers have until Nov. 1 to either sign “user agreements” to be included on the system or gamble that the Virginia Department of Health will not condemn their present septic systems which could lead to a costly, mandatory hookup.
The Rappahannock WSA, at its monthly meeting Thursday, authorized the letters be sent by Wayne Cilimberg, executive director of the RappahannockRapidan Planning Commission in Culpeper.
“People with requests for exemption pending should be made aware of the consequences of not signing to be on the system,” said Carson Johnson, WSA member. “If their systems aren’t approved, they will have to pay the costs to hookup.”
