Betty R. Silvey
Mrs. Betty Redden Silvey, 49, of Alexandria, died on Oct. 1 in Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Alexandria. A native of Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Laura Holloway Redden.
She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Silvey, of Alexandria, formerly of Amissville; two daughters. Miss Sharon Lynn Silvey, of Alexandria, and Mrs. Sandra Gervais, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two grandchildren; three brothers, John Redden, of Falls Church, Chester Redden and Thomas Redden, both of Beckley, W.Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Ewing, of Beckley, and Mrs. Mary Reno, of Arlington.
A funeral was held on Oct. 5 at Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper. The Rev. Paul Markee officiated. Interment was in the Turner and Annie Hitt family graveyard in Amissville.
Humane Society
meets tomorrow
The Rappahannock Humane Society announces a public meeting tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the Washington Fire Hall.
The new organization has spent the summer fielding complaints about several types of animal abuse.
RHS President Vince Hannon said the complaints originated in calls from county and state officials, as well as from the general public.
“Rappahannock citizens need to know about our activities and the kinds of treatment animals receive here,” Hannon said. “What we need now is a show of support.”
