Western music is popular in Russia, too, “and a real effort to emulate our music,” Mrs. Young said.
The Youngs were able to travel most anywhere they wanted, but they knew about closed cities and other places where no one could enter without a pass.
“Language and time restricted us more than anything else, but I did feel a sense of enmity there,” Dr. Young said. “We did meet another Rappahannock person, Nancy Buntin, at Red Square in Moscow!”
The Youngs said they would not mind taking another trip to the Soviet Union. “Next time, I’d want to go to a prettier part, though, because we haven’t seen very much that’s pretty there yet,” Mrs. Young said.
They will share more about their trip to Russia through a slide presentation on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rappahannock Library. The public is invited.
