The forest,

the park,

an error

To the editor:

The past two issues of the Rappahannock News carried Greg Turner photos of (scenes within the) Shenandoah National Forest. Shenandoah is a national park administered by the Department of the Interior. The National Forest Service is an agency under the Department of Agriculture.

While both agencies are similar in the eyes of the public, the park service mission is substantially different from that of the forest service and national parks like to be recognized for what they are.
