helps pre-teen children of working mothers learn how to take care of themselves safely after school. A teen program called “Wilderness Challenge” helps youth develop confidence in themselves and improve their ability to work as members of a team.

The “Consumerama” quiz bowl helps youth be wise consumers, getting the best buy for their money for items purchased by young people. The competition of the quiz bowl stimulates study of consumer products and builds excitement and enthusiasm.

There is an important international dimension to 4-H. Many Virginia 4-H families participate by hosting international visitors. There are opportunities for 4-H teen youth to live abroad during the summer through the International 4-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) Ambassador Program. Recent 4-H alumni (age 19-25) can qualify for four to six-month international experiences as IFYE representatives.
