To make things even more confusing, British teachers do not have a contract, not like our contract at home. The term teachers give all duties — sports, parent nights, clubs and lunch time duties — is goodwill. For 13 months teachers have not been doing these duties.
But since five of the six unions have voted to accept the increase, things in the schools should be back to normal, right? Well, not exactly.
Some of the local unions do not support what their national unions have voted on so schools are in the same position now as they were when I started in August.
A majority of the teachers in my school will not resume their “goodwill” duties until a higher pay increase is granted.
