Among the field of nine in the two-mile race is Charles Fleischmann's 1984 Race Mare of the Year, Lumba Wallah, Chester Goldman’s Casanova and Piedmont winner, Fire Sun, and John Branscome’s Piedmont ownerrider winner, Star Billing. Paul Cramer’s Casanova winner, Shasta Be Good is also entered, as is Michael Pearson’s Precaster, a winner at Warrenton.
The final race of the day is a IV2mile open flat contest which has a field of 22 including leading steeplechase owner George Strawbridge’s AugustinStables’ New Zealand-bred Hawaiki.
Old Dominion officials report they are ready for Saturday’s races, and optimistic for a good day.
General admission for the Old Dominion Hunt’s races is $5.
Racing starts at Ben Venue with pair races at 10 a.m. A respectable 28 pairs are entered for the adult optimum and fast-time and junior optimum divisions. Several new fences and trails have been incorporated on the three-mile course for this year’s races.
