Beauty contest to be held The 1986 Miss Rappahannock Beauty Contest will be held Friday, April 4, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School. The annual event is sponsored by the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. The admission fee is $2.50 for adults and $1.25 for students. Proceeds will go to the ambulance fund. Culpeper Minute Men Chapter to meet The members of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR, consisting of women from Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock counties, will have an outing to Ash Lawn for their April 8 meeting. Those desiring to car pool are asked to meet in the parking lot of the Culpeper United Methodist Church no later than 10:45 a.m. The group will have a noon luncheon at The Ivy Inn on Old Ivy Road, followed by the Ash Lawn tour. Pre-registration for the luncheon and tour must be made by April 4 with Mrs. Zillah Gutowski.

‘Jewel of the Nile’ Jewel of the Nile will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on April 5 and 6. The film stars Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito, Avner Eisenberg and The Flying Karamasovs. This sparkling sequel to Romancing the Stone finds the swashbuckling Jack Colton and romance writer Joan Wilder in pursuit of a mysterious jewel. They of course are being pursued in turn by DeVito and his assorted abettors. The movie is rated PG.

Spring event planned Washington Baptist Church will host its traditional spring event on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. It will include a bake sale, plant sale, box lunches, barbecued chicken, hot dogs, drinks, and Grandma’s Attic (a flea market).

Homemakers to meet The Amissville Extension Homemakers Club will meet on Monday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Amissville Baptist Church. The Flint Hill Club will meet Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 at the home of Sandra Jenkins. All members are urged to attend.

Masons to meet The Washington Masonic Lodge No. 78 will meet Monday, April 7, at 8 p.m. at the Washington Baptist Church.

Baseball registration Registration for 6 through 12-year-old boys and girls for Tee-Ball and Little League will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 5, and Saturday, April 12, at the baseball field at Rappahannock County Elementary School.
