A plant watering system developed in Israel to cope with irrigation problems in barren stretches of desert is helping homeowners take care of their plants in the United States.
Called slow flow, or drip irrigation, the system can reduce the amount of water used by as much as 50 percent.
New do-it-yourself kits from several manufacturers make it possible for homeowners to adapt this technology. True Temper SloFlo kits, for example, come in three different configurations for specific applications — landscaping, patios and vegetable gardens.
The kits snap together and hook up to an outside water tap. Timers can be added.
