Jonathan Watson, son of Diane and Holly Pendleton of Sperryville, qualified to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University from June 15 — July 12. His main interest is in computer science.
“This course will focus on computing foundations with emphasis on problem-solving using the computer and properties of programming languages—concepts, properties, and formal descriptions of algorithms, logical analysis, decision trees and flow-charting.”
“I’m hoping to go to either the U.S. Naval Academy or the U.S. Air Force Academy and major in computer science,” said Jonathan. “So if I learned enough at the Governor’s School I might be able to validate some courses and take more electives. I’m looking forward to learning more about different computers since we only have one kind here.”
“After I was nominated I received a package of forms to fill out. I had to get teacher recommendations and write two essays,” Jonathan explained. “The first essay was how do you think that this will benefit you. The second one was to write to a mentor and tell how you would like to be an apprentice under him.”
