John L. Bosley’s My Happy Way, a victor in the owner-rider timber at Blue Ridge, makes his return to the races this weekend after a fall at Warrenton. Old Dominion Hunt’s joint master, David Semmes, has also entered his Phenom.
Among the entries in the novice timber race, which will be fourth on the card, are several winners from last year’s point-to-point season. Eva Dahlgren has entered her Ahwaz, winner of Warrenton’s ladies timber races in 1985, and has listed D.M. “Speedy” Smithwick to ride.
Casanova Hunt joint master, Joyce Fendley, has entered her Devil’s Valentine, a winner at Casanova this year. Devil’s Valentine fell while in contention at the Middleburg Bowl last week. He will be ridden again by John Dale Thomas.
Randy Waterman’s Rep, a winner at Piedmont, is also in the field, as is Warrenton Hunt huntsman Michael Powers’ Fleet Buster, a winner over hurdles last year making a change for this race.
Old Dominion’s races will start at noon with junior races for horses and ponies. Four medium ponies and a large pony will run in the pony races. Among the entries is Jill Waterman’s Lil Fritz, a winner at Warrenton and Middleburg. Six horses have been entered in the horse division, including Mrs. T.A. Randolph’s Tingles Image which will be ridden by Foxcroft student Dawn Dugan.
The ladies’ timber will follow the juniors race. This 2'/2 mile contest has 14 entries, including Fairfax Hunt master Randolph Rouse’s impressive Cinzano, a winner at Warrenton. Paul Krakes’ Traffic Boom is also entered, Patti Cassel to ride, as is Kip Johnson’s Casanova winner, No Deterrent.
The First Colony Owner-Rider Hurdle race will be third on the, card. Nelson Gunnell’s Make The Move, a winner at Blue Ridge and Middleburg, heads the field of six in this race. Charles Ross’ Bipp Hahn, winner at Casanova, is also in the field.
