There’s money in them thar hills this weekend, and a bunch of horsemen aim to get some of it at the Old Dominion Hunt’s point-to-point races at Ben Venue on Saturday.
In an effort to entice horsemen into the hills of the Blue Ridge, Old Dominion officials have offered purses for three of their races for the last two years. Once again the hunt will offer purses this year of $1,000 for three of its eight races. •
The prospect of actually being able to get some money for point-topoint racing has lured a good number of horsemen for Saturday’s races. Both the novice timber and the maiden hurdle races — each with a $1,000 pruse — have strong entries. The novice timber has 19 entries, the maiden hurdle 22.
