For three days last week, the sixth and seventh grade classes at Wakefield School in Huntly saw firsthand the sites of their history lessons, touring Valley Forge. Philadelphia, and “Pennsylvania Dutch" country.
Valley Forge was the first stop. “The kids always enjoy tramping through Valley Forge in weather which reminds them of Washingtons stay." said Wakefield seventh grade teacher and acting headmistress Pamela Lynn.
The second day saw the students and chaperones led by a costumed guide on a walking tour of Philadelphia. They visited Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Congress Hall, Carpenter Hall, the Edgar Allen Poe House, Franklin Court, the Betsy Ross House, the Quaker Meeting House, and Society Hill.
Before returning home, the group traveled through “Pennsylvania Dutch" Country, learning of some of the contributions of German immigrants to the United States.
Some other Wakefield School trips planned are a fourth and fifth grade three-day trip to Williamsburg and Jamestown, a prep school spring break tour of Spain, and the February Ski Week in Colorado.
