The national campaign was debated in our county, in this newspaper, by a representative from each party. Lee Bird and John Marocchi traded honest differences — without a mean word between the two. They presented choices and tried to explain what their respective parties stand for. I respect them both for the contribution that they made and the level to which they elevated the debate between their parties.
I think the big-time politicians could learn something from our “oldfashioned paper ballot” elections. I think that, just maybe, we’ve still got a spirit, or a respect for the other guy, that they have lost.
I wish they would come here and let us help them find it.
