Bank should loan the money at 5.5 or 6.0 percent interest. "Ask them if they can't give us a little better rate. That's commercial interest they’re charging."
Commonwealth's Attorney Peter Luke confirmed that the board could investigate other loan sources besides Rappahannock National Bank, where the county maintains its accounts. “There's nothing that says that's the bank you have to borrow from if you can get a better rate somewhere else."
“Look at the business we give them." agreed supervisor Massie. “It wouldn't hurt to shop around."
“We may not have time to shop around if we're going to pay our bills by Wednesday," supervisor Charles Estes replied.
“We can delay payment on some of these bills," interjected Mr McCarthy. "We’ll still be paying on time seven or 10 days from now."
With those assurances, the board authorized chairman Gilkey and the county treasurer to sign a note for the county to borrow an unspecified amount for an unspecified time from an unspecified lending institution, “if and when it becomes necessary."

At the suggestion of supervisor Ellis Bingham, the board also proposed that Route 15 between Haymarket and Route 211 in Fauquier County be reopened to trucks simultaneously with Route 17 to reduce the tractor trailer load on the latter route.
