It was obvious I stood in awesome wonder, but he told me not to be afraid. He knew that my family and I loved him and he loved us too, as long as we took care of him.
However, he explained that if ever anyone did any misdeed to him he would retaliate in one of two ways, one being that during a full moon he could and would escape from whatever storage area in which he was placed. He would then seek out the culprit to seek revenge by forcing this person to do the “pumpkin two-step.” This would worry even you if you had seen the wiry legs of the pumpkin man, plus he is very light on his feet. This forced dance routine would continue nonstop until sunrise.
If this first form of punishment does not deter the thief, maybe the second will. Anyone causing ill fortune towards the pumpkin man will break out with large orange pimples. These start on the nose and spread daily.
Anyhow, this pumpkin dermatitis will clear only when the pumpkin man is returned, but there may be a small pumpkin-shaped birthmark left where only you or your doctor will see it.
