Mr. Tracey was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital by the Chester Gap Rescue Squad. He was admitted with leg and internal injuries.
Trooper Moore said that a member of the state police truck safety team came to the accident scene, but that the crane’s brakes had already been disconnected so that it could be towed back to the company’s headquarters. Because of that, he said, the investigator could not determine if the crane’s brakes were properly adjusted. No charges were placed in the accident.
Trooper Moore estimated damage to the crane, which is owned by Valley Crane and Rigging of Fishersville, at $15,000. He said the dump truck sustained about $1,500 damage.
The trooper said that the accident, which happened about 10 a.m., snarled traffic on the narrow dirt road for most of the day as the huge tow truck maneuvered the crane into position to be towed away.
