The weather may still be too warm to think about heating costs, but it is a good time to search for ways to prepare a house for the winter.

Be sure to check the insulation. Inadequate or aged insulation may need to be replaced or added to.

Consider installing storm windows and doors. If it isn’t possible to add conventional storm windows, put plastic over the inside of the windows. In some cases a custom made storm door can be placed on the inside of the existing door.

Weatherstrip around doors and windows. Caulk any places around window’ and door frames where they may lose heat. On older homes, check for leaks around wall and floor joints.
