ciuiajrivcuiici man was a amitted to Warren Memorial Hospital on Nov. 2 after the construction crane he was driving crashed on the Hume Road in northwestern Rappahannock County.
According to Trooper C. A. Moore, James Tracey of Carlisle, Pa., was driving a 1969 Warner Swasey 25-ton crane east on Route 635, about .8 mile east of Route 522. The crane stalled near the crest of a hill, and rolled backward down the hill, striking a 1985 Ford dump truck owned by Rappawan Construction Co. of Front Royal.
After glancing off the front of the dump truck, the crane veered off the left side of the dirt road and struck two trees. That impact sheared the cab off the front of the crane, with Mr. Tracey still inside.
The cab fell to the ground but the crane continued down the hill, back across the road and off the right shoulder, coming to rest on top of a stone wall.
