David Paul Godwin celebrated his 28th birthday Tuesday — behind bars.
Though the former manager of Washington’s now defunct Village Cafe probably didn’t get his birthday wish, the merchants and residents he fleeced before he left town last Labor Day weekend applauded the news of his arrest in Titusville, Florida last Friday, Feb. 9.
According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, Rappahannock County will extradite Godwin to face six felony bad check and several civil warrants in debt filed in Rappahannock County.
But Godwin’s reckoning with the residents and courts of Rappahannock will have to wait, at least temporarily. He faces larceny and bail jumping charges in Brevard County, Florida, which must be resolved before he can be extradited to Virginia, according to Sheriff John Henry Woodward.
And, after his day in court in Rappahannock, Godwin will then face a violation of probation charge in Fairfax County, a stolen property charge in the City of Fairfax, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and bad check charges in Comanche County, Oklahoma.
