Once again the old toll house on U.S. 211 is abustle with merchant activity.
Fitting like fine decor with the ancient log walls and chinking, the shop’s growing selection of guns, ammunition, fishing equipment, outdoor clothing and other items related to the sport are starting to fill the two small rooms as Wolf Mountain Traders enters a new outdoor sport season.
An interest in firearms is in the blood of the McCoy family. John, his brother, Downing and their father Quentin needed litte encouragement from a relative to begin a shop.
“There is only one place around here that sells guns,” John McCoy said. “It’s been a real dream of ours for years.”
Though the three began the business, Downing found obligations elsewhere more demanding and withdrew from the business, leaving John and his father to man the shop.
Testing the ground before making the jump, the two opened their door just part-time. Each evening from 3 to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., the two enter the tiny shop to sell guns, giving their heritage new dimension.
