“The music is chosen by the guest conductor,” Director Orth explained, adding that each piece was of “university level work which is very challenging” for the high school musician, who have not played together before. “The intensity of the rehearsal is exhausting,” he said, adding that regional choir participants receive their music weeks in advance while these specially chosen band students see their music for the first time at their first rehearsal.
