Northern Virginia stands to receive about half of the total recordation tax returns. Fairfax County should receive just over 50 percent of the total distributions to Northern Virginia.
Fairfax and Loudoun County are among the losers in the state’s revised aid formula for public schools. The two counties are among the wealthiest in the state, according to the composite index used to calculate the state funding. Under the system adopted by the legislature, Fairfax will lose more than $3.5 million and Loudoun will $1.5 million.
Efforts, by area legislators, to include a “no loss” provision failed. Sen. Charles L. Waddell, in a letter to the governor on the last day of the session, called the loss “unprecedented” and request that the governor “make the school systems whole.”
