Wilder was largely praised by both Democrats and Republicans. Del. Clinton Miller, the Shenandoah County Republican who is the GOFs assistant majority leader, said Wilder had tried valiantly to clean up a fiscal mess left by his predecessor and “we support that wholeheartedly.” Perception in politics is sometimes as important as reality and Gov. Wilder has been able to carve a new image as a fiscal conservative who still wants better roads and schools and opportunities for all Virginians.
