The Rappahannock Panthers lost much of their starting lineup to graduation last season, and Coach Dee Van Horn forsees a rebuilding year for his young squad.
With only four players back from last year’s team, the coach said he has filled the squad with youngsters who he feels will need work on the fundamentals, but should improve with time and effort.
The coach is new too, taking over from Gary Leake, who resigned to devote his full attention to the basketball program.
Coach Van Horn noted that he has six seniors on the team, but only three have played scholastic baseball before. “We’re still building,” he said, and with a scrimmage against Randolph-Macon Academy scheduled for Saturday and the season opener next Tuesday at home against Manassas Park, the team is still open in many positions.
