Bill Atkins, returning to the squad from an All-District season last year, led off the game with an insidethe-park home run. That was followed by a double off the bat of Tom Brown.
“Bill did that on hustle,” Coach Van Horn said, pointing to desire as a key if the Panthers are to do well this season.
The game last week, he said, was a true scrimmage, with free substitutions both offensively and defensively as he experimented with different player combinations in the infield each inning. “I wanted to see what we have under game conditions,” he explained.
