Being responsive to the needs of the Planning District 9 is one of the priorities of the United Way of Culpeper.
While United Way distributions of funds go to agencies located in Culpeper and serving PD9, seven of these agencies served clients living in Rappahannock County. United Way evaluated in its allocation process the number of clients being served in each county of PD9 and continues to fund those agencies offering health and human services to the PD9 community.
Giving to United Way helps these agencies to operate and provide support not provided by other organizations.
Services to Abused Families (SAFE) provides services to women and children who have been subjected to abuse within their families. Their services include emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline in PD9, food, clothing and emergency medical care. Last year, SAFE served 32 clients in Rappahannock County. United Way’s allocation to SAFE this year is $23,000.
F.O.R.E., United Way’s only agency at this time located in another county (Fauquier), provides a shelter workshop environment providing evaluation, training and work experience for handicapped residents of PD9. Last year, F.O.R.E. served five clients from Rappahannock County. United Way’s allocation to F.O.R.E. this year is $12,000.
