Eagle, birds killed in Madison
Another eagle was found dead in Madison County recently, Ed Clark of the Virginia Wildlife Center said.
The bird was a golden eagle rather than a bald eagle. It was found along with two other birds. Mr. Clark said, "The investigation on this case is just beginning."
He said the dead birds were brought to his center, but he had not done a complete post mortem on them because a decision was still pending on "who is to do that."
He said the incident was similar to the killing of a pair of bald eagles in Rappahannock County in that there was no effort to hide the birds. "There is no reason to exclude the possibility that these are connected," Mr. Clark said.
He said the reward for information on the killing of the eagles in Rappahannock would be extended to the Madison County incident, at least the private money pledged to the wildlife center. Of $9,000 offered in reward money, $4,000 was pledged to the center. "I can't speak for the Fish and Wildlife Service," he said. "These are close enough to cause us to sleep less soundly at night," he added.
