The Rappahannock Athletic Association officially begins its 1991 youth baseball season with opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. April 27 at Stuart Field in Amissville.

Maybelle Stuart, who donated the land for the new Amissville ballfields, will throw out the first ball. Guest speakers will appear and the league’s sponsors will be thanked.

More than 200 kids will participate in the league this year, which began (unofficially) April 23 and continues through the end of June. Baseball players in the majors and Babe Ruth will compete in an interleague tournament at the end of the season.

Concession stands will be open at Pullen and Stuart fields.

One way the league raises money every year is through softball tournament fundraisers. To play in the fathers’ softball game May 11, call Bob Wildman at 937-4875. To play in the mothers’ game May 25 at Pullen Field, call Sandra Brown at 987-8758
