“I’m happy that some 44,000 people are together in Fauquier,” he said, “but at the same time I’m a little sad that Rectortown and The Plains are not in this district.”
Wood has considered running for the House for the past 10 years but, with Fauquier split into three districts, the odds of winning were not in his favor.
“There’s no sense in running a campaign where you can’t win,” he said.
The Democrat said the responsibilites of a legislator must include providing constituent service and state leadership for the area he represents.
“The problem area where most fail in the legislature is that part of the leadership,” Mr. Wood said.
Legislators and their constituents need to work together to come up with innovative ideas to address the problems related to drug abuse, the environment, law enforcement and other concerns, he explained.
“Not only am I going to come up with these answers, but the people of the county are going to come up with these answers,” said Mr. Wood.
In this way, he said, the 31st District area can really be a leader in Virginia.
“We were a leader at one time under (former Del.) Tom Frost,” he said.
“My job is going to be to see that Rappahannock and the four precincts from Warren and also Rectortown and The Plains feel that they can come to me and sit down and talk to me,” said Mr. Wood, “and we’re
