safety vests, maps and pick-up, the Rappahannock News provided firstrate publicity, John McCarthy and Bet Gehringer were always there for advice and helpful information, and the Rappahannock High School Environmental Club, its sponsor, science teacher Patti Waddell, and principal John Toth, provided educational promotion by holding an assembly on Earth Day and declaring the week of April 22-26 Earth Week at the high school.
The Piedmont Environmental Council’s Environmental Education co-ordinator, Cynthia Decanio, took time from her busy nine-county schedule to address the assembly on the topic of the delicate balance for our water on the planet, and offered to assist us here in the county with any water studies of rivers and streams we might be concerned with.
And last but not least, a heartfelt thanks to those individuals who braved the wet and windy weekend to help pick up trash along the Fodderstack before the big race, in Old Hollow, and along U.S. 522 and Route 664 in Huntly, including Paige Noel, Kevin Weisgerber, Jane Mullen and son Erin, Bethany Craig and the students of Spring Mountain School, and Tutt Stapp-Harris and son Jamie.
