Sperryville gun lottery The second annual gun lottery, sponsored by the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, is under way. Tickets are $30 each and good for 52 weeks with a gun being given away each week. For more information call 987-8683 or 987-8124.
Program set for May 6 Rappahannock County Extension Homemakers and the American Cancer Society will co-sponsor the program Special Touch (how to do breast self-examination) at 7:30 p.m. on May 6 at the Extension Office in Washington. Marilyn Slater, reach to recovery volunteer with the Culpeper Cancer Society, will be the guest speaker. Before the program, and in celebration of Homemakers Week, there will be an Open House from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.
PTO group to meet The next Elementary School PTO meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at RCES. Among other business will be the election of next year’s PTO officers. A sitter will be there for your use. “Bring a fellow parent, we need you,” said an organizer.

Breakfast at Flint Hill An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a. m. to 11 a.m. at the Flint Hill Fire Hall on Saturday, April 27. The price is $5 for adults and $3 for children eight and under. The breakfast is sponsored by the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department. The menu includes eggs, apples, sausage, bacon, potatoes, biscuits, coffee and tea.
Festival applications accepted Oldway Craft Village of Sperryville is now accepting applications for the fourth annual Oldway Demonstrating Craft Festival on Memorial Day weekend. Past attendance has been 2,000-5,000, with 50 artists showing. Demonstrations are encouraged but not required, interested artists should call the Oldway office at 987-8474.
'Dances with Wolves' at Theatre The feature attraction this weekend at The Theatre at Washington, Va. will be “Dances with Wolves” at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. In this frontier meeting between Union soliders and Lakota Sioux warriors, first time director Kevin Costner does what greater filmmakers would never have thought of. He disarms you. Making love, not war, with the Indians, he creates a willfully romantic vision that circumvents big-movie pretentiousness with straightforward storytelling. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children. The movie is rated PG-13.
