It’s a love-hate relationship between vineyard keepers and vineyards. The work is time-consuming and often easily destroyed by rain, disease and pests.
“Sometimes you wish the sun would never set” on the work needed to be done, and “sometimes you can’t wait for the sun to set,” Mrs. Kellert said.
She once harvested in the rain, and the days even now stretch on and on. “It’s all trial by error,” she said of the work.
Presently, the Kellerts have five acres in grapes. They hope to cultivate 15 acres of their 22-acre farm. Their grape variety is extensive.
Gray Ghost Vineyards — selling to Linden Vineyards in Warren County — harvests vidal, cabernet franc, seyval, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, reisling, chambourcin, chancellor and some merlot.
“We are strictly growers,” Mrs. Kellert said of the vineyard, adding
