In asking a federal judge for permission to tap Allison’s phones, the FBI said it was concerned about possible “informational contacts” Allison may have had with “local law enforcement.” Despite that and other indications in court documents that Allison’s network is thought to be much larger than just those already indicted, no additional indictments have been issued since February. Apperson would not comment on that and other aspects of the government’s ongoing investigation.

Apperson has said he intends to call dozens of witnesses in the case, although he is not required by law to say in advance who he has subpoenaed.

Allison’s attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, did not return repeated phone calls this week.
