A scant quorum of the town Planning Commission met briefly Monday evening and voted to readvertise the revised subdivision ordinance for a public hearing in May.
The planners thought they had finished with revising the ordinance when they held a public hearing on it in February. They decided to submit it to a professional planner and continue the hearing until March.
In March the hearing was again continued until April.
Gordon Jones of Planning District 9 reviewed the ordinance and redrafted several sections.
The planners met with Mr. Jones last Thursday to consider his recommended changes.
Mr. Jones suggested language for the ordinance that would make it more like ordinances for other towns. The planners let him know they didn’t want to develop like other towns.
His first suggestion was to rename it the “Subdivision and Development Ordinance.”
Planning Commission Chairman Louise Van Dort said. “You used the D word; can you tell us your reasoning?”
Mr. Jones said the language was suggested by the state legislation that requires localities to have subdivision ordinances. “It used to be the Land Subdivision Act. and it was revised and- renamed the Subdivision and Development Act,” he said.
Mr. Jones had suggested that the prohibition on package sewage treatment plants be removed. The planners said it had to remain.
