On Saturday even more help showed up. There were at least 20 qualified carpenters here and 10 or more other people. Cqon himself works in the construction business and many of his friends, also in., the business, showed up to lend a hand.
“It was incredible how fast the roof and supports went up. It was like a choreographed construction ballet.”
By Sunday the roof was on with tar paper over it. The work on the inside continued.
“It was really an unbelievable response. It’s magical — how people have responded. Basically in one weekend we got done most of what has been done so far.”
Since then Coon has, with the help of friends who are carpenters, managed to put the shingles on the roof, rewire and do a lot of the framing, put in windows and insulation.
The Coons were without insurance at the time of the fire and the costs of rebuilding a home afe staggering. This weekend a fundraiser will be held at the Blue Moon Cafe in Sperryville to help raise funds for the Coons. The fundraiser has been planned by Chip Warren and other friends of the couple. Warren said Howard and Julie have always been there to help others in a time of need and now others are glad they can be of
