“The Many Faces of Poetry” got off to an appropriate start on Jan. 13 with a poetry reading and workshop during resource block at the high school conducted by RCHS graduate Laura Shadier. Now a student at Bard College in New York, Shadier was already focused on being a writer when she attended RCHS, where she was editor of the school newspaper. She has recently had her poetry published in the journal, Fireweed.
On Jan. 13, she shared her own poetry as well as that of poets that have been inspirational to her, including her college mentors. On Jan. 16, Shadier conducted a follow-up session, with the students reading poems of their own and of other poets. The discussion centered on the interpretation of the poems that the students shared.
