I feel powerless against the massive destructive force held by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors. I walk the tree-lined lanes of the county and wonder what meetings have taken place to lead to such a position as that on Yancey Road (Route 621). I sit amazed at the power of commercial interests and “politics.” I ultimately realize that their willingness to ignore the pleas of the people and push forward a “road destruction plan" is a horrible mistake. 1 realize I am not powerless but must wait to vote.
I was astonished that the supervisors could sit and listen to the requests of organized citizens groups only to state that “we better move fast on the road construction on Route 621 while the budget is still in-place.” I could not believe that I once sat and listened to the supervisors resist spending on a critical school roofing project, and seconds later push an expensive project that will destroy a beautiful county asset in the name of development that most residents detest!
It is clear that their decision to move forward on Yancey Road is not supported. It stinks. Over 100 people have signed a petition to have them reconsider the issue.
