pate. A group of RCHS teachers will give a reading for their original and favorite poems on Jan. 28, and Rappahannock resident, Paul Reisler, will lead workshops on the poetry of songwriting on Feb. 2, 4 and 6.
Wyrrick will lead workshops on combining poetry with other disciplines such as movement, music or visuals. There will also be an additional special focus on the use of technology in the creation of “visual poems,” where drawings, paintings and photographs inspired by student writings are joined with the writings through the use of the computer.
Some events will be open to the general public and it is hoped that invited poets will be able to give community readings. A definitive schedule and further details will be published at a later date.
In late April, a “Poetry Circus” will be held at Ki Theatre. This will be an opportunity for the students to bring their work into the community, and for community members to interact with them. For example, students may accompany a community member’s poetry with music, movement or visuals that are inspired from the poetry.
