The petitioners firmly believe that we don’t need a wjder and paved Yancey Road, especially if it will destroy the over 158 maples and sycamores that are God’s glory and natural beauty. It is trees like these that attract may visitors year round, especially in the autumn — visitors and guests that love the rural character of our county and that spend money critical to our local economy.
I think of guests I’ve entertained that loved the area so much for its natural beauty that they chose to move their business to the area or host a wedding with loving family and friends. The petitioners, as do I, firmly believe that we need treelined lanes and benefit greatly from their existence. We should work to enhance such natural resources, not destroy them!
The supervisors never even put the issue on the agenda. Their real action was one of inaction. They did nothing to lift our spirits and grace our souls. They told us nothing of the real story. They resisted any responsibility for their willingness to ignore the protests. Maybe that is their job.
But, at a minimum, wouldn’t it be nice to hear the supervisors openly state their
