grade. The RCHS enrollment actually decreased by four students. Student attendance was up by approximately one percent in December at both RCES (94.3 percent) and RCHS (95.7 percent). Employee attendance at RCES was 94.6 percent and at RCHS was 93.7 percent.
Several unanticipated repairs involving safety and fire code violations totaled $585. Repairs were made to the doors at RCHS and to the boiler room ceiling and the playground equipment at RCES.
According to Gangel, the RCES cafeteria roof continues to leak even after being repaired in November by L.A. Restorations. Gangel said he has not received a response from the company.
Warrants
The finance subcommittee, consisting of Wingfield and Lee, met with Gangel on Jan. 12 to review the warrants (bills to be paid). Mentioned items were $4,000 for the initial payment of the chlorination system (allotted $10,000 in the budget); $1,760.33 to Wise and Associates for a feasibility study on the RCHS shop roof; $297.02 to the Virginia School Board Association for the conference in Charlottesville on school board development; and $170 for VSBA Conference registration for Ron Makela.
Also paid were: $1,625.23 to Wharton, Aldhizer and Weaver for a variety of legal services including student disciplinary cases, tax-deferred annuities and conflict of interest “policy” interpretation; $3,877.06 for 35 RCHS band uniforms; $12,834.15 to Allegheny Power; and $43,357.19 for Piedmont Vocational Services.
At a subcommittee meeting on Dec. 30, the board awarded bids to Jefferson Supply for custodial supplies, to CII for HVAC and to Permatreat for pest control. All plumbing and electrical bids were rejected.
