not the right time. Alsharkawi, who operates an organic greenhouse, came to the meeting interested in a farmers’ market, but is not interested in a cooperative marketing effort. He already sells his specialty produce to seven different farmers’ markets, including the Warrenton Farmers’ Market, and has no surplus. McCall also said that he has no trouble selling his crops and that the proposed cooperative would provided him no financial advantage.
Epstein made it clear that neither he nor his company would be leading the effort to form the cooperative. Any organizational effort would have to come from the farmers themselves, though Epstein is prepared to host another meeting to support the process. No date for the meeting has been set, but ground clearing for the development is scheduled for the end of January.
