The deadline for the 21st Annual Wildlife Essay Contest has been extended to Jan. 31 because school closings due to inclement weather prevented many schools from meeting the original Jan. 13 closing date, according to contest coordinator S.O. Newman. The task of finding teachers to staff classrooms was “more difficult” this year than last for 34 percent of Virginia’s localities, and superintendents in an additional 10 percent said that their teacher recruitment was “much more difficult.”
