Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation, announces that it has been awarded a grant by the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The grant will fund a school-wide project at Rappahannock County High School entitled “The Many Faces of Poetry.”
County resident Sharon Wyrrick will serve as artistic director for the project, under the sponsorship of Headwaters, with support from the Rappahannock School System and the Curriculum Enrichment Committee.
Events that take place in the community will also have assistance from Ki Theatre, the Rappahannock Association for Arts in the Community and other community members. Competition for Virginia Commission for the Arts grants was intense this year and few were fully funded. Headwaters was gratified to receive a fully funded grant.
The project will explore poetry as an expressive medium of storytelling. “The Many Faces of Poetry” has a prime objective to explode the stereotypical views about what poetry is, who can create it, and who can enjoy it.
