perspective such as: “we know you value the beauty of this country lane. Your children grew up here. You take solice in the existence of such a peaceful lane. We love it too. But is must go. We need 18wheelers to haul our agricultural exports. We need paved roads to facilitate more house building. We need to support large corporate landowners of this county. We need to spend the highway funds or we lose them. Someone 15 years ago saw the importance of these decisions and we agree with them.
However, we do have some sense. We will at least recommend to VDOT a tree replanting scheme that will ensure that the lovely tree-lined lane we are working hard to destroy will regrow so that our future neighbors and their grandchildren can enjoy them. Or maybe we can even figure out a way to preserve Yancey Road as a local access road, by simply paving inplace with no widening, and placing the highway throughfare somewhere less contentious.” At least this seems closer to truth and the truth is what we should expect and demand from a board of elected officials with such godlike power.
