we have attempted to meet those social and political needs through the law and through social programs, but they have been left to stand alone, without a core of religious belief.
The law can attempt to effect compliance of behavior, but without the compliance of the heart, it cannot be completely successful, and while social programs can meet some of the needs of the lonely, the sick, and the poor, unless they are motivated by more than pragmatism, the “cracks through which people fall” are wide.
