Our first few days in Australia were spent in Sydney. Marianne had booked a time share exchange for us starting on Friday (for one week) so we had booked three nights at the Holiday Inn Potts Point, Sydney. The rate was great, we got priority points and a breakfast buffet in the morning.
What we didn’t know until we arrived was that it bordered on the Red Light District. ( Perhaps if we had been a little more sophisticated we would have understood what they meant when Holiday Inn advertised it as being in the “entertainment district.”) The hotel was great, and during the day the area boasted fine cafes etc. Night time was a little hectic. We ventured out, on foot, only once after dark, just too much “street” traffic to contend with.
Our timeshare exchange was on Manly Beach just north of Sydney. (We own points in a time share plan here in the states. For $99 they exchanged a weeks worth for the apartment in Australia.) Manly has one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia.
The area is divided into swimming and surfing areas; and if you saw the Bay Watch episode where they went to Australia to compete with other life guards, yes Australian life guards wear the “little hats” when they are on duty. We were told that Manly was most probably
